Rural areas across South Africa are regularly overlooked by e-commerce giants, leaving the market open to innovative local entrepreneurs. Siyanda Mthethwa, is the founder of Kuloola-, an online grocery store and delivery start-up that uses small trucks, tuk-tuks, and local drivers who know how to navigate treacherous roads to bring same-day orders to rural households and spaza shops. The company has already completed more than 25,000 orders in KwaZulu-Natal.
Siyanda was the overall winner of the 2021 The South African Breweries Foundation Social Innovation Awards and is part of the FURTHER coaching and development programme. Read more about Kuloola in this article on Business Insider.
